Howth, the Bog of Frogs, the Ben and Shielmartin Hill, Ireland.

Most hikers who do the Howth Peninsula follow the Cliff Walk, which is spectacular. However, the Hill of Howth has some hidden gems. I am exploring the many routes that criss-cross the peninsula, to plan a route to do with a family group in a few weeks’ time. First, I want to find the best way to do The Bog of Frogs, the Ben of Howth, Shielmartin Hill and The Old Tram line. But I also want to include The Summit Inn for refreshments. Here is my first attempt, but there are some improvements I will add after my next Recce. It is an interesting insight into the Howth walks, that many have not had an opportunity to explore. The walk starts and ends at the DART Station in Howth and is suitable for visitors to the city without private transport. There are a few challenging spots, on the way up and down from Shielmartin, but nothing too difficult. It could be wet after rain due to the ferns and heather through which you pass, and slippery over the rocks. The views are worth stopping to see. I did this walk with a friend Tom. A “different” way to enjoy what is the Beautiful Howth Peninsula.
