Itinerary description
A very beautiful hike along the coast only 30 minutes outside of the city center. The trail is well marked(follow the coast from the station and then all the purple arrows) and easy walking, never to steep or rocky. When you cross R105 go left instead of right(like what I did at first) and access to the trail is a bit hard to see but on the right side of the road a few minutes up.

I did this walk with my husband in brilliant sunshine ,which added to the enjoy in late June. The original trailhead was closed due to construction work being undertaken by the office of public works, so we did struggle to find another access point. The early section is mundane enough until we reached the crossing at Howth GC. After that the trail opens up to simply stunning views across Dublin bay. It is well marked the whole way although we did appear to be doing the trail in the reverse direction to the general traffic on the day. Having traversed the inland section we skirted along the cliff top coastal section culminating in a sharp turn around a corner when Howth harbour suddenly comes into view. There were a few short uphill climbs, but overall it isn’t very difficult.
