Itinerary description
Coming out of the hotel make a right and then another right before Rifugio Pratopiazza to begin a modest uphill. Go through a stile and begin a traverse to the right across cow pastures and around the headland. You will pass through another gate. We chose to walk through the meadow but you can take the path also. Continue along until you reach a ruined fort. Here you have the option to continue up to the peak of Mt Strudelkopf for a quick in and out walk (close cousin of Mount Crumpet) or to turn down the valley onto Landro/Val Chiara 34 and begin a 3000 foot decline.
The trail is marked with red and white marks on rocks and trees. There are some zig zags. You will continue down into forest before crossing a small stream to climb gently up to some wooden bridges secured with an iron railing **not good for vertigo sufferers** Go through the tunnel and down the steps to continue on the decline down to the Hotel Tre Cime. This is the only place to get food and water on the hike.
This is a trail break at about roughly the middle of the hike.
Cross the road just past the hotel and go through the car park to pick up trail 102 up the valley towards the Tre Cime peaks. The gentle rising trail will take you up past a hut on your left where you should turn right to cross another stream and turn right following the trail 108 steeply up through forest to emerge onto a Rocky Mountain pasture. Continue on the trail forward through the valley until you come up into a meadow below a restaurant. Follow the trail through a car park and up to the tarmac road. There is a bus stop here you can use to bus down to Lake Misurina.
If you continue past the bus stop, cross the road and take a few steps on the path before turning right onto a smaller trail marked with yellow and orange paint toward the telephone poles. Cross into the pasture and keep to the trail with the poles on your right to pick up a forest trail. You will see orange paint on rocks. Follow the trail up and then down until you come to two WW1 wells. We missed the trail to the sharp right here. Take that trail down and over an abandoned ski chute. Continue the trail on the other side of the chute down to the parking lot at the lake. Take the wide gravel path around the lake to Misurina.
* Caveat - this hike was easy but LONG. I would not rate it easy if done in reverse!

WW1 Wells - this is where we missed the hard right turn through the forest on a hazy path by a stream
