Itinerary description
An easy day hike for those who want to experience the beauty of Hornstrandir briefly, without a guided tour and only using boat transfers.
This hike was done on a Wednesday in August, using the only available boat connections for that day:
Ísafjörđur - Sæból/Ađalvik at 09:00 (or 09:30)
Hesteyri - Ísafjörđur at 18:00 (or 18:30)

Price for both trips: around 140€
The trail was sometimes wet but nothing too annoying, there are almost no signs and cairns during the first part of the trail, they were more marked during the second half (descent to Hesteyri). Despite the lack of signs it is very easy to navigate, as the direction is pretty much always the same: just go towards the church and keep left of the lake, then climb the mountain and it's a piece of cake from there.
The only slightly challenging part was the climb after the Church and the lake, but not too hard. There are a few small rivers to cross and one bigger river where you should take off your shoes and dry your feet after the crossing.
Very cosy and warm guesthouse at Hesteyri with tea and pancakes as extra motivation! :)
Spotted a couple of whales during the boat ride as well!
