- The trail leads through the sacred Tōpuni area of the Hooker Valley, which has special significance and values for Ngāi Tahu iwi, towards Aoraki / Mount Cook.
- From the first of three suspension bridges along the way, take in the views of Lake Mueller and listen to the avalanche noise of distant Mount Sefton. Try to locate them before they collide with the Mueller Glacier below.
- After crossing the Hooker River, the trail passes between the old ridges and morain hills. From the second suspension bridge, the vegetation changes to a more open cough and a wider bottom to the valley. A third suspension bridge leads to East Hooker and the source of the Hooker River.
- The trail ends with an incredible view of iceberg-dotted Hooker Lake and up to the majestic Aoraki / Mount Cook and the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri or Moana.
- The best time to trek this breathtaking trail is at dawn, when you can see the first rays of the sun crawling over the Southern Alps, including New Zealand's highest peak, Aoraki / Mount Cook. Early risers will be rewarded with the serenity of sharing the lane with just a handful of other hikers.
