Itinerary description
Long drive to access, but rewarding. Fascinating evolution of the forest after 2010 Dollar Lake fire. Snags are shedding black burned bark leaving silvery white ghostly columns as first wave succession flora repopulates forest floor; fireweed blooming when we walked. Great, nonstop views of Hood, nice looks at Ranier to the north. Stiymied by Ladd Creek again; couldn't find comfortable place to cross without being up to our knees in fast cold water and didn't want to get our boots wet. Checked out the lower crossing with similar findings.
No wildflowers except fireweed. When hiked in 2012 (with jbb) flowers were prolific at same time of year.
June 2018 - South portion Went back last week of June; avalanche lilies spectacular; W'est meadow still completely filled with snow, couldn't go beyond. (sih, cvg)
See "Hood - Vista Ridge/Zigzag" for driving directions. About 1 1/4 hour from Zigzag
8/21/15 sih, cvg
