Itinerary description
Easy minimal grade walk along sandy trail (shared with horses, watch your step) from the west trail head to the seasonal temporary bridge across the Sandy River. Can continue after crossing to Ramona Falls trail. Semi-open forest, some nice mossy shady spots to rest or lunch. River a brisk flow in summer, obviously a huge torrent in high water times judging from size of washed out bed.
Directions: From Hwy 26, four miles on E Lolo Pass Road to Forest Road 1825. Go right on 1825 for 1.2 miles, turn right onto 1825-380 into McNiel Horse Camp area and trail is about 200 feet on your left.
