Itinerary description
Really more of a mountain bike trail than a hiking trail; probably twenty bikers and only four hikers on the lovely August Saturday afternoon we walked. Trail parallels Highway 26, and the road noise is more or less constant. Nice, but not worth doing again. Can't understand why it would rate a recommendation (as "Laurel Hill") in Sullivan's "100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon"; all the other hikes we have done in that book have been rather good.

Did short walk in/out (5 miles round trip) on cool, cloudy Aug Friday, and found walk a bit more pleasing. Main attribute is easy access (turn on Kiwanis Camp Road/NF-39) and park on right shoulder in about 100 meters and find access through brush to trail. Only a couple of bikers and one walker on trail. BONUS: drive down to end of road past Kiwanis Camp to Little ZigZag falls; short ½ mile walk to nice falls, not too busy for an easily accessed waterfall on Hood.
