Itinerary description
Very nice walk. Start at McGee Creek trailhead. First 1.75 miles moderately up through second growth forest with vast sea of rhododendron and huckleberry understory (berries ripe in mid-August). Trail then joins Timberline trail direction Cairn Basin. Wonderful view of mountains, small creek-fed meadows with abundant wildflowers, and ends at busy stream. McNeil Point lookout and shelter would be an extra 1.1 miles up; we were out of time and energy to add it on. Garmin distance 9.08 miles roundtrip.

Aug 2018 - A much less pleasant experience. Day was warm, so long sustained uphill not too charming, but main problem was swarms of small black flies, mildly annoying when moving, but intolerable when stopped. Eating on the trail was impossible; we turned around at 3.5 miles and went back to car to eat lunch with AC running, and went home.(sih. cvg)
