Itinerary description
08/18/2018 sih, cvg - Still a lovely hike (actual distance seems to be 10.2 miles). Only one biker on the Dry Fir trail, several day tripper groups on the Veda Lake trail in mid-afternoon, warm Saturday in August. Black huckleberries at peak along trail between last switchback and Veda Lake campground.
08/22/2017 sih, cvg- A rather ideal hike in many ways; nice length and effort. Access is easy (but final couple of miles on gravel road 903 is overgrown, and bushes nearly meet in the middle in several spots). Dry Fir trail was designed to share with mountain bikes, but we saw no evidence of recent use. No one else on trail on nice August Tuesday. Elevation gain easy since designed for bikes. Lots of rhododendrons on lower portion, lots of huckleberry bushes (but no berries left) on upper leg. Car accessible camping sites where two trails meet. Veda Lake trail a bit more strenuous, but okay. Lake quite lovely, with several camping sites. Trail really peters out around lake; have to bushwack if you want to make complete circle; better to backtrack probably. Couple of yahoos were target shooting from the trailhead parking area when we finished, but fairly benign. About 75% shade.
