Itinerary description
Excellent walk. Not a single other party on the trail or at parking area on perfect August Monday. Mostly through tall forest, but with several nice views, including old quarry at the start, and views of Hood and Jefferson at several points (and Three-Fingure Jack in the distance if good visibility). Easy-moderate grade, trail in good condition. Signage absent or vandalized. Area around quarry used historically for target shooting; Forest Service has attempted to discourage by tearing up old road to make vehicular access difficult. Park at Douglas Trailhead (http://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Douglas_Trailhead), about 20 minute drive on paved roads from Highway 26, and head south over berm for quarter mile to join trail at the quarry.
