Itinerary description
A very nice walk through mature fir and spruce, past a few open fern meadows and then a short steep connection via Devil's Tie trail to a postcard perfect mountain lake (primitive camping possible). A steady but moderate uphill. Actual distance 8 miles from trailhead to Cast Lake and back (see below).
Directions: take Road 27 from Highway 26 and go 5.2 miles to trailhead. First half mile is paved but rest of the road is very rough single track. Our wimpy front wheel drive rent car objected to a slick boulder/loose rock/pothole situation 1.2 miles from the trailhead, so we parked and walked up to the trailhead, which was perfectly nice.
sih, cvg, pgh(part way)
Aug 2018 - tried to do again, but road was horrible within first mile, so turned around and aborted hike. (sih, cvg)
