Itinerary description
07/01/2020 (sih, cvg) Cold, wet, rainy, muddy but still nice walk. Half dozen cars at trailhead, several backpackers despite weather (covid cabin fever?). Fed chipmunk peanuts at lake at lunch. Last mile of road getting bad again with potholes.
08/21/2018 (sih, cvg) Nice walk. Three cars at trailhead late morning on warm August Tuesday, passed one group on trail on the way up, and one group down. Two small groups at lake. Gaia GPS app says distance 8.8 miles round trip. Total time 3 ¾ hr with lunch. Fed gray jays by hand with peanuts. Remember side trail down to creek for rest or lunch.
8/16/2017 Road 109 now improved. Exemplary hike; mature forest, with a number of massive stumps and snags (a number being burned out hollow silos) to suggest size of original old growth trees. Good variety of flora; nice creek. Reported as very busy on weekends, but okay on nice mid-August Wednesday; about eight cars at trailhead, and only a few people on trail. Excellent rest/lunch spot on Lost Creek at "A". Nice loop around Burnt Lake. Could continue on and go down Burnt Lake south trail if willing to shuttle cars.

8/16/15 Still nice hike. Last 1.4 miles of access road still looks like Verdun in 1918. Moderately busy on nice Sunday. 7.3 miles just to lake (sih, cvg, pgh, jbb, karen & dudley)
8/15/13 Very nice hike. A bit over two hours to the lake, mostly up, the an hour twenty back down. Very pretty wooded terrain.
Access: Hwy 26 to E Lolo Pass Rd. Go 4. 2 miles the fork right onto Rd 1825 for 0.7 miles, then right across bridge over Sandy River. Continue on 1825 for another 2.1 miles to Lost Creek Campground. Veer left onto gravel road (very rough condition, with huge potholes) for 1.4 miles to trailhead.
