Itinerary description
A round-trip stroll from the Holiday House Green Cape Guest House to the Batumi Botanical Garden, lunch, beach, and back up.
The guest house is fine; a good location for the gardens but hard to find. Very friendly hosts who provide cheap and plentiful meals. A little sparsely furnished as of August 2019; very affordable.
Walk up to Batumi Botanical Gardens entrance was straightforward. 15 Lari per person, gate was staffed. Trees are labeled, some informative signs throughout. Mostly paved, quite busy for a rainy weekday. We toon refuge in a lovely hut near the Japanese garden dirija a downpour. Lots of photo opportunities that we did not take advantage of. The meal at the tourist joint at the end was actually super delicious : chicken salad, eggplant with walnuts, and tomatoes with eggs (plus fresh, soft bread.)
Walk back up was crazy, with kudzu vines swallowing up dilapidated, abandoned buildings while a new hotel is being constructed behind them on the hill.
We took our time with this walk — lost of breaks, walked slowly, then it rained and we skipped sections, etc.; so don’t rely on the times given. The gardens aren’t that big and can be covered more quickly or more slowly.
All in all, I might suggest doing Botanical Gardens as a day trip from Batumi, rather than staying here on the cape, as it’s quite sleepy and there’s not much to do here besides hang out in the room or visit the gardens or one or two restaurants. The beach may be nice when it’s sunny. Good luck!
