Itinerary description
Starting from Hiyata next to the gate leadind to the Cross. The gate is closed and you will have to go around it to start your walk. After visiting the Cross place, take the nice trail to the left, leading to an old house (ruins). Continue your way on a beautiful forest trail that goes up. Good spots for camping and/or picnicking are on your way (see waypoints). After reaching another old house, go east towards "Wata el Jaouz". Before reaching the main road, go north and follow different dirt roads and footpaths. At some point, you will see a "lebanese army site" down to the left. It is not allowed to go in this direction. Instead, keep following the recorded trail here to avoid entering restricted army zone. The trail will take to a quarry (ugly site!) but don't get upset because the best part of the hike comes soon after. You will see many old houses (ruins). It was probably an old village. After the ruins, take the stunning wild trail that goes down to "Jouret el Teffaha", a good spot for camping or for lunch break. From "Jouret el Teffaha", a well blazed trail offers many spots to admire the beauty of Jabal Moussa to the north. Another ruined house (Iskandar Assaad) is on your way before reaching Ain Sarbine and Saydet el Qalaa. You will have to walk less than 2 km on the road (pleasant walk/ no cars encountered) before reaching "Camping Chahtoul". From there, we took the well-known trail that leads back to the Cross. This hike is recommended in all seasons except the hot summer days! Keep hiking!
