Itinerary description
This relatively long walking trail leaves the Wellcome Genome Centre in Hinxton and explores the small English Villages of Hinxton, Duxford and Ickleton. I started this walk just outside Mulberry Hall at 52.08237°N & 00.18427°E. The grounds are very green and lush with walking trails populated by lots of birds, squirrels, and hares. Upon leaving the grounds of the Genome Centre turn left heading 326° at the roundabout at 52.07921°N & 00.18826°E. This short stretch along the A 1301 has no established walking or biking path so exercise caution along here.
I turned onto New Road at 52.08328°N & 00.18584°E to get into Hinxton. Turn right onto High Street at 52.08289°N & 00.18291°E. High Street hosts the historic Red Lion Inn. Keep right at 52.0882°N & 00.18291°E onto North End Road. This exits at the A 1301 at 52.08882°N & 00.18318°E. I turned left heading 346° along the A 1301 to get to the junction with the A 505 at 52.10424°N & 00.17708°E. Continue heading 272° along the A 505. This route also has no established walking or biking path so exercise caution along here. Turn left heading 154° along Moorfield Road at the intersection at 52.10202°N & 00.15996°E heading into Duxford.
Turn right onto St. John’s Street at 52.09528°N & 00.15907°E heading 156°. This should take you past St. John’s Church located at 52.09467°N & 00.15622°E. Stop in and explore. Turn left onto Ickleton Road at 52.09339°N & 00.15180°E heading 156° and onto Hunts Road. I carried on along Frogge Street until 52.07003°N & 00.17106°E where I turned left heading 99° onto Abbey Street. Visit the historic Church of St. Mary Magdalene on Church Street Ickleton. The church is located at 52.07269°N & 00.17991°E and hosts 14th or 15th century murals on the ceilings that was only discovered after a fire there in the 1980’s.
From here I carried on heading 3° along Church Street that became Brookhampton Street. I found another old church along there. It’s located at 52.07716°N & 00.17658°E. It’s small and worth exploring but be careful for rabbit holes along the grounds of the church and it’s graveyard. The road becomes Ickleton Road just past the railway crossing located at 52.07862°N & 00.17935°E. From here you’d just complete the loop. In my case back to the start point at the Genome Centre.

There are much better scenic and off road routes to enjoy these villages, with walking over meadows and by rivers. Do not walk on the A505!
Thanks @paularenouf ... Perhaps I'll find these off road routes on my next visit.
Be happy to show you around. It’s a lovely spot.
That would be very welcomed and I would like that... The area is exceptionally lovely and really well worth exploring... I may just pick you up on that...
