Itinerary description
Hiking - Loop from Nice Riquier neighborhood.
Going east from the city port, the Coastal Trail (Sentier du Littoral) reaches the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. At about halfway, a staircase (270 steps) must be taken to go up and overcome a sheer cliff, then re-descend and proceed through typical Mediterranean vegetation that offers some shade which is very welcome during hot months.
The small beach (de la Darse) below the old ramparts may be worth a short stop before taking the Glass Saircase (Escalier de Verre) leading to the Fort du Mont-Alban and a magnificent view over the bay.
Return to Nice through a partially wooded trail and a small quaint city park.
