Itinerary description
Hiking - Counterclockwise loop from Ceres.
Santa Cristina's church sits on the first promontory between the Grande and Ala Valleys above Lanzo. The climb from the Grande Valley side is partly on a forest road and partly on a steep trail, in the shade, which may typically requires the use of light crampons in February.
After days of thermal inversion with freezing point at some 3,500-4,000 m of altitude, it was otherwise exceptionally warm. Well above 20C, and plenty of blooming primroses.
Great panoramic point in all directions.
Shortly before the loop completion, the trail passes by the small Cappella degli Appestati, or della Peste (Plague Chapel), erected in AD 1577 with original frescoes still in good conditions.
