The plan was to run down the high valley to the breakthrough of the Vjosa at Kelcyre. We did that too. It went consistently high. In the village Maricaj it came again to the compulsory meeting with the dogs. This time it was really aggravated. The muttes did not want to let us pass, a barking, growling and barking of 3 critters, that actually murder thoughts came up with us. Finally, the mutt was dragged away by the mistress, it was a public path in the village, then it could go on.
During the further hike up to the watershed we met herds several times, but the dogs were kept in check by the shepherds. Great views back into the valley and ahead in Vjosatal. A completely wild area awaited us after the watershed. But the road was marked, which made it easier for us to move forward. From the village of Mezhgoran we went steeply down into the Vjosa gorge, which is here cut almost 1000 m deep into the mountains. A historic breakthrough, as shown by the Turkish fortress at the northern entrance and the Greek War Cemetery from World War II. In addition, there was a decisive battle between the Romans and the Macedonians, which led to the incorporation into the Roman Empire.
We rented in the idyllic Hotel River, where a hot shower, food and a washing machine for all our clothes expected us. A nice end to this beautiful hiking day.
After a rest day there the weather had unfortunately deteriorated so much that we decided to cancel the two-day tour over the mountains to Girokastro and let us drive there by car. Too bad, would have been a great tour.
