Itinerary description
Hiking - Anasazi cliff dwelling ruins in Canyon De Chelly National Monument.
This hike is not too demanding and takes from the parking lot to the bottom of the canyon and the "White House", and back. It is the only self-guided opportunity within the park. Others are possible, and probably very interesting, but do require a guide. Ask for details at the visitor center.
Track may be a bit inaccurate due to satellites fix bouncing off sheer walls.
Erosion exposes intricate rock formations, structured in layers or solid red/purple sheer walls and pinnacles.
Tips:
Canyon De Chelly is located in northeastern Arizona, USA. Although it can't compare to the Gran Canyon in terms of magnitude and depth, this canyon is a gem and, in my opinion, a better experience. Aside from the stunning landscape, Anasazi cliff dwelling ruins are visible from several featured view points. Differently from those in Mesa Verde NP, Colorado, these are not accessible but immersed in a peaceful "live" environment as Navajo families live and farm here.
