Itinerary description
This is high definition track to the summit of the Pic La Selle, starting from the closest point where you can drive.
To get to the starting point by car, follow this trail: http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=11300616
This way, the 1-way trip to the summit is only 4km and will take roughly 2 hours in each direction as there are steep parts and you need to keep track of your steps. If you have the time and the energy, you can opt to start your hike at an earlier point in the forest.
Along the way, there are many agava plants with sharp points, so it's recommended to wear long pants for the hike to avoid getting scratched up. When you get close to the summit, it's likely going to be windy and a bit chilly, so you may want to bring something a bit warmer then you usually need for Haiti. As there is also a lot of loose rocks, a hiking stick may help your balance going up or down.
The trail is quite overgrown, but usually easy to follow as there was white coloured rocks on the track. But you need to keep an eye on the GPS from time to time to make sure you're on the right track.
The landscape is very different from you may be used to in Haiti. The flora and fauna is different, as well as the temperature and the weather. Not quite alien, but certainly different. See the picture to a bit of an idea what to expect.
Once you get close to the summit, there is one way point on the track. At this point, the trail is going a bit down, here you will see an intersection on your right hand. Follow this to get to the summit.
Once you are very close to the summit, there is not much of a trail any more and you will need to find your way up the hill. The GPS will give you a reasonable trail for you to follow, but you may want to find your own way.
At the summit, there is a concrete block with a red box with a log book. And if you are lucky (more likely early in the day) you may get a great view from the summit, but it's frequently in the clouds, so you way not see much around.
