Itinerary description
Preikestolen (a.k.a. Pulpit Rock) is the most popular hike in the Stavanger area, Norway. Preikestolen rises over 600 m above scenic Lysefjord, a 40 km long classic Norwegian fjord.
The hike to Preikestolen is a bit steep. The path starts at the parking lot Preikestolhytta, at an elevation of approximately 270 m above sea level, and climbs to 604 m. The hike takes 1–3 hours depending on experience and fitness level.
The path is obvious and well-marked. Thanks to good infrastructures, the hike to the top is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
The walk is not recommended in Winter when there is snow and ice, and the track may be slippery. The best season to hike the trail is from April to October.
Bring good shoes, good clothes (at higher elevation it might be colder) and don’t forget water and food.
Our hike
Date: 25 May 2015
Departure / Arrival: Preikestolen Fjellstue
Distance: 3800m + 3800m
Duration: 2h20 + 2h00
Unfortunately, we had no luck with the weather and the stunning view that we were expecting to enjoy from Preikestolen was no more than a barrier of fog.
