Itinerary description
Circular route passing the highlights of the Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais: Castelo dos Mouros, Parque e Palácio Nacional da Pena, Chalet e Jardim da Condessa d'Edla, Lagoa dos Mosqueiros, Jardins do Palácio de Seteais and last but not least the Quinta da Regaleira.
If you wish to fully explore all the sites and do the complete hike, you might find that there are not enough hours in one day. We were happy to just enjoy the beautiful and mystical surroundings of Sintra. Most of the sites were already known to us, so there was no need to actually visit them all during this hike.
Note that this route passes through the Parque e Palácio Nacional da Pena, the entrance fee is €14 (adults). Most visitors go straight to the Palace and back, while the Pena Park has so many more interesting places to explore! I personally loved the amazing Chalet of the Countess of Edla.
Part of the (middel of the) route is actually a paved road, which I normally don't like. But since this was a very quiet one, I didn't mind at all.

Thank you for this trail. It is a beautiful one, but we adapted it a bit (came from Pena to the historic center via Sassetti Park).
As you say, most of it is following the main roads where there is no designated space for pedestrians, so we were always worried about any cars coming our way, and today there were several.

Mucho ojo, la mayor parte de esta ruta es por carretera, por donde pasan coches y autobuses. En algunos tramos la carretera se estrecha y es peligroso. No aconsejo esta ruta. Por suerte hay tramos muy bonitos por campo y bosque, precioso. Además, para seguir esta ruta hay que entrar en el palacio de pena y hay que pagar.
