Itinerary description
High Seat and Hellgill Force loop from The Thrang — Yorkshire Dales National Park
This was an atmospheric 18-kilometre hike around the Eden Valley, taking in the Nuttalls of High Seat (709 m), Archy Styrigg (695 m), Hugh Seat (689 m), and High Sails (667 m). A long valley slog followed by a steep climb up onto a pretty desolate, high ridgeline that had commanding views of the Eden Valley and would be on more pleasant days accompanied by stunning views. It was a good day out though, with over 700 metres of ascent done in six hours.
Parking: A variety of parking spots are available in the valley. I started from my holiday cottage.
Route Description: Good farm trails and mountain paths in the main. Sometimes indistinct and boggy, but overall a good route. Quite desolate on the higher reaches, but generally great views out across to Wild Boar.
Route Statistics: 18 kilometres with 700 metres of height gain done in around six hours.
