Itinerary description

The standard route from the Mt Work north parking lot to Jocelyn Hill is a slog both ways. The only highlights are the Squally Reach viewpoint and the destination Jocelyn Hill viewpoint. An old route set before the park existed is the High Ridge Trail traversing more interesting terrain than the worn standard Timberman Trail. This track log shows the route. The first section is easy to follow, a good boot track and cairns where necessary. Getting to the second section, descending from a viewpoint to the seasonal creek and up the other side is a poor trail marked with only occasional flags. Going down to the Squally bridge and then up the creek to the established high ridge trail may be a better alternative. The final section on the ridge is great. On this hike we ascended to the Jocelyn summit on a flagged, partially cleared shortcut leaving the standard trail at a couple of big logs. This shortcut avoids the long descent and reversed ascent set by the standard park route. From the Jocelyn summit we went to the cliff viewpoint and descended the obscure but great cliff trail down to Piccadilly Circus and over the Bonsai Bump to meet the standard trail for the trudge on the dog route back to the parking lot. Along this return trail don't miss the Squally Reach viewpoint.
