Itinerary description
One of the highlights of Algonquin Park, this favourite spot can be accessed from the Sand Lake gate. A permit is required and for our car it was $14.50. Follow the Barron Canyon Road past the Barron Canyon trail (another excellent panorama of the area). Just past the cut off for Brigham Lake (about 200 meters) there is a sign posted for High Falls. Turn left and some parking is available. Take the wooden bridge over the creek and you are on your way.
The trail is about 4.3 km to the high falls area and will take from 45 minutes to an hour or more depending on your pace. The trail is fairly wide, has good footing and is well marked. Forest is mature, typical of the Algonquin area and there is plenty of small wildlife to be seen. The highlight for summer visitor are the pools and falls at the end, great for swimming and a natural water slide over a small falls that is tough to resist.
Make sure to journey down stream an additional 250 meters to see the High Falls.
