Itinerary description

This walk is also available as a guided tour but we decided to do this on our own. Ferry from Ísafjörður goes at 09:30. To book the ferry, send email to westtours@westtours.is. It's important to check the weather conditions for Hornstrandir. We went mid June and there was still snow in many areas, makes it hard to find the path. Bring along a towel, you got to cross at least one river towards the end. Obviously also bring a camera with a long lense, there's many arctic foxes in the area, especially on the beach.

Hello there! I will be heading to Iceland this coming June!

Just a few questions regarding this trail, i hope you don't mind!

    1. I understand that you did this trail on your own, so did you follow route signs or something?

    2. Did you rent a GPS?

    3. Did you camp for the night?

    Thank you so much!

    Regards,
    Aaron

Hi there, I will also be taking this route in early July this year.

If you have answers for Q1 + Q2 for Aaron, I would be so grateful to hear them.

    Best wishes,

    Erin

    hi
    1) did the trail by ourselves. there was no signs. there was still snow in a few areas so not much to go on other than the gps.

    2) I used my phone. I either use wikiloc with offline maps or oruxmaps with offline maps (when it was still possible to download openstreetmap areas) and track data. I always make sure my wife also had a map on the phone and we carry extra battery pack

    3) we didn't camp. did it as a daytrip, dropoff and pickup via the ferry on the same day.

    enjoy
