Itinerary description

We started this gorgeous hike at the lovely and tiny lake Mechesee. There's a bus stop at the start point, so you could take a bus if you prefer not to drive. We took the 869 bus from Bernau and rode less than 30 minutes. From there, we took the trail going down the western side of the lake, and went north. The terrain was lovely the whole time, but once we hit the Hellmühler Fliess creek canyon it was like a fairy tale. The canyon took us west, towards Hellsee. The hiked the northern bank all the way to Lanke and visited (from outside, since it's a private property) Schloss Lanke. Walked a bit through Lanke and managed to easily find the way back to the Hellsee trail, this time the southern side of the lake. Soon we merged onto the road that leads back to Mechesee. At one point very close to the end, we had to go off trail in an attempt to take a shortcut and try to catch the buss back home (we did it!). The off trail part was only a few dozen meters through a pretty walkable part of a thin forest, so it won't be an issue to anyone. If you prefer not to do it, just continue following the marked trail at the point where the track obviously goes off trail and you'll end up at the start point as well. This is such an amazing little hike, I can't recommend it enough.
