Itinerary description

This hike takes you across a gorge formed by Haslam Creek, via a substantial cable bridge, to Timberland Lake and then part way to McKay Lake. Unfortunately we ran out of time and had to turn back before reaching McKay.

The bridge over Haslam offers great views down into the narrow gorge that Haslam Creek flows through. It was quite peaceful at the time of this summer hike but when the fall/winter rains start it is roaring (see pics in hike: "Haslam Creek to Timberland Lake (Cassidy) - Retreads")

Between trailhead and Timberland Lake, different routes - separated by a ridge - are taken. The northerly (outbound) route offers some pleasant valley views with less challenging gradients. The southerly (inbound) route is over a very challenging grade with some brief glimpses of Haslam Creek. We would advise using the northerly route in both directions.

Timberland Lake is a small but beautiful lake, a great spot to stop for lunch.

The White Pine trail offers some lovely valley views through a relatively open forest of arbutus and young fir.

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 3 B.
