Itinerary description
Its a tough16km (return) trek to the top of Little Baldy Mountain to visit the old Amamoor Fire Tower (20km south of Gympie). Start your journey on Harrys Creek Rd. Its a pretty walk, crossing the creek five times before you enter Amamoor Forest. From here its a case of following numerous steep, slippery old forest tracks to the 353m summit. The forest is a combination of introduced pine and traditional hardwood. Unfortunately many of the tracks are not maintained and you will have to push through undergrowth, lantana and fallen trees. Having said that, its worth the effort as there are some great views of the district from the top between the trees. We approached from the SE side and returned via the ridge track to the NE

I know Amamoor SF very well, you could have cut a few KM off of your trek, and avoided all of the overgrown tracks if you turned left before you got to the old cattle yards. Or you can turn right and head up the hill opposite the old yards, this will take you to the boundary track, which is quite scenic and will get you to the fire tower.
