Itinerary description
A beautiful little loop during late afternoon and sunset time. Easy to reach from Galle or any of the neighboring beach locations—by TukTuk or by Bus (exit bus on Heenatigala Road/Rathintagoda Road and follow the latter some 200 meters to where our starting point is; or start anywhere else, eg at ancient Yatagalla Temple).
If you want to not just pass but see the two distinct temples on your way (one old, large and a special place of Buddhist worship; and the other small and most picturesque under a beautiful tree amidst rice paddies), plan in some 3 hours.
In any event walk during afternoon hours to experience the local people—be it coming back from work, going to the temple or just taking a relaxing stroll). Typical for Sri Lanka, a smile and friendly greeting will get you far with the local crowd.
There are about 300 meters where you have to walk along a main road, which can be a bit more adventurous for those not trusting in whatever divine destination, irrespective of your faith.
Last but not least, you will see beautiful birds along your way through the rice paddies—plenty of Kingfishers during one of our walks.
