Itinerary description
This hike goes up the Seongpanak trail to reach the summit and then goes down via the Gwaneumsa trail.
Logistics:
You need a permit to enter this trail! (https://visithalla.jeju.go.kr/main/main.do). Reserve your spot at least a week or two in advance, especially if you want to hike on a weekend.
From Jeju intercity bus station, both 281 and 282 bus lines go to the trail head. It takes about 35 min to get there. There is no bus when you arrive at Gwaneumsa, but there are taxis passing by regularly. It costs about 10€ to go back in town.
The ascent is not very scenic as it goes up in the forest for most parts. It’s quite challenging, alternating between stairs and lava rocks. Hiking shoes are a must as it is taxing on the ankles.
At the summit, it is cold and windy, be prepared! Also there is a line to take a selfie with the rock marking the top of the volcano - you can skip it if you want.
The way down is made of a lot of stairs, sometimes really steep. That’s where the views are the best, and that’s why we did the hike this way.
