Itinerary description
Whenever you travel in Syunik, you can't be not amazed by its mighty Vorotan gorge ( Որոտանի կիրճ ).
This hike passes through Vorotan canyon started from Halidzor village ( Հալիձոր գյուղ ) and leads to Bardzravan village ( Բարձրավան գյուղ ) .
This is quite challenging trail as you gain altitude mostly the all way, but it's one of the most spectacular trails of this area.
Some information about the trail:
--- This hike is one of the most wonderful hikes in this region, though the last 1/3 is quite challenging as you gain altitude in a short time, but the views are really worth it!
--- First you go down from Halidzor to Old Halidzor ( Հին Հալիձոր ), then you go straight till the dense forest and the last part of the trail passes through the woods and big rocks.
--- This route is a part of the famous "Legend's trail" in Syunik province, it's also considered as a Transcaucasian trail passing through Armenia. So the trail is blazed, but we need GPS here, as it has some confusing parts.
--- Here I have waypoints which will definitely help you with the navigation.
--- I find the best months are September and October here, as you have both a blooming fall and not very hot weather and a lot of fruits, etc :)
--- Season for this trail starts from April and lasts till mid November (till first snowfall)․
Take into consideration that summer is too hot here, so I'd suggest hiking the trail either in spring or in autumn.
--- During the hike you'll pass by the small hidden chapel called as " Simoni vank " ( Սիմոնի վանք ) with khachkars . The spot is mystic and out of this world and the ruins are covered with green moss.
