Itinerary description
We went about 1.5 miles each way. Took about 44 mins down and 55 back up. Guidebooks and rangers say allow 2x as much time going up as going down; this might be more applicable the farther down you go (ie, the more mileage you need to ascend.) The trail is easy-peasy going down. It’s actually not that steep going up but it’s unrelenting and the altitude makes it very tough. Totally doable and worth it, take lots of water and lots of photos!
Clear, sunny but very windy day. Walked down in wool hat, base layer and wind breaker, back up in wool hat and t-shirts definitely bring sunglasses.
Terrain is amazing!
Make sure to stop at the Leleiwi lookout on the way in, it’s incredible.
