Itinerary description
This hike will take you into the Hal Scott Preserve. The hike will take you along both the new and old yellow blazed trails, as well as part of the white blazed trail. There is an extension of the white trail which leads into the northern section where you will find a red blazed trail. The majority of this hike is out in the open, passing through Florida scrub. At times you will enter sections of the Econlockhatchee River basin. This river runs north up to the Little Econ Forest. The hike will also take you to the 3 primitive campsites found in the area. I did the hike during the midday, so unlike me, the wildlife seemed to be taking it easy, avoiding the Florida sun. I was told by a sheriff I met that if you get there early or stay late you might see the Florida Panther which has been seen in the area. I did see some birds, as well as a few hogs. The area is on the Florida Birder's list, so they are there. Just take plenty of water and put on sun screen if you attempt this hike. I can tell you after the 13+ miles where done, so was I! Please "take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints". Happy trails.....
