Itinerary description
Half-way between Petit Goave and Marigoane is a little know beach called "Plage de Cocoyé". It cannot be reached by car, but you can get there by foot using this trail. See the pictures to have an idea what you can expect.
You can use this trail 2 different ways:
Follow the trail clockwise and you'll get to the beautiful beach in about 1 hour following the steep track down to the beach. This way, it's about 2 km long, dropping around 350 meters during these 2 kilometres.
Or, follow the route counter-clockwise. You'll get a bit more exercise and get to see something of the neighbourhood. During the first kilometre you'll climb about 100 meters, but after that, it's all downhill until the beach. You'll come by a few houses and along some fields where tourists almost never come.
After around 5km, you'll make it to a beach where you'll find a small fishing village. They will be most happy to help you with a few coconuts for a small price. After you've recuperated, follow the beach for a while and then you need to pass over 2 foothills to make to your destination: Plage de Cocoyé. Here you can enjoy the beach, take a swim, but also have lunch. Make sure to order it when you arrive as it may take a "bit" longer then you're used to. So there will be plenty of time to swim and enjoy.
After lunch, you continue the last part of the track: 2 km up a steep hill, climbing around 350 meters. So you may want to keep that in mind when you order beers at the beach!
There is one more alternative way to get to the beach: Find someone in Grand Goave to bring you by boat, but that's of course not for you die-hards that want to see more of Haiti than the average tourist...
