Circular walk, starting at the Still visitor center. Bis ad 123 also stop there. You walk to and over the Haddtian s wall beautiful views, the Peter Pan tree, and end up at Housesreads. Those are beautiful excavations with explanations. Tickets at the mini museum. Free if you are a hermitage member. That, by the way, often pays off.
Then partly on the road, partly on the public footpath. After the lime line we took a less convenient public footpath... through a herd of cows (ok) and a huge bull (oops, luckily that was the biggest fear of the bunch. There was no clear exit on the other side, so we had to climb a gate. So tip to take that last part of the road, there is little traffic.
Finally you reach Vindolandia, also beautiful excavations.
