Itinerary description
Maja e Gurit Gjon is the top of the striking cliff near the abandoned mining town of Kurbnesh in the middle of Mirdita region.
Guri Gjon is not the highest point of the mountain rising behind Kurbnesh, but the nearby summit can be hiked together with Guri Gjon.
We had climbed up along the northern side of the cliffs (see wikiloc #4820057), but that route is badly overgrown and exposed, and not suitable for a descent. The trail described here is the regular direct way up Guri Gjon from Kurbnesh and down. It is well worth to spend more time near the summit area to explore the undulating plateau.
When starting in Kurbnesh, the path follows a dirt track for 1.5 kilometers. A rocky trail leads up to the main ridge. At the waypoints marked fork it is possible to miss the way if not paying attention. When approaching Guri Gjon from this trail, it doesn't look as dramatic as from Kurbnesh, but the views are still rewarding.
