Hi Pedro. Did you climbed it with a guide? How technical is it? Thanks.

    Hi Luiz,
I climbed Gunung Raung alone without any guide. It is an easy climb, you just walk all the way up. I started climbing in the afternoon and spent the night at Camp 2 to go to the summit on the next early morning.

Hello Pedro, I am thinking about going alone too. Would you please give me some advice? About the terrain and any safety concern? Thank you

    Hi B98207084,
I think there is no problem doing the hike alone. In my case, I started the climb quite late, as I arrived there in the late afternoon or early evening. When I reached camp 2 it was already dark, but I wanted to walk less the next day in the morning.
The climb can be done in a day if you don't want to camp or you can start at night and descent on the afternoon.
You can see that my start and end points are different. You can take an ojek/ride a motorbike to the start point and also take a ride back to save some walk.
Not camping means you can climb lighter and faster... All depend how you feel.
But, you can do it alone without any problem.

Terrain is good, you just walk, no need to "climb". Bring warm clothes if overnight or night climb because it can be cold and windy up there. Just need to be careful at the summit, the crater is very deep. Just normal common sense.

Hi Pedro.. thinking to hike Raung this weekend. I would like to know whether it’s true, that we need to provide a letter from a doctor for registration & guide is a MUST?

    Hi Farida,
I climbed Gunung Raung almost six years ago and and that time no medical certificate or guide was needed. I just arrived to one "Pos", registered, left some luggage I wouldn't need and took an ojek to the trailhead. It was already late and I wanted to reach as high as possible. I reached my camp spot already in the dark.

    Hi Farida,
I climbed Gunung Raung almost 6 years ago and at that time no guide/medical certificate was needed. Things might have changed now but I don't think medical certificate should be needed when most if doctors in Indonesia won't have the equipment to check your physical condition and you can also get one just by bribing.
    Check this site: http://www.gunungbagging.com/raung/
It is quite updated and it doesn't mention anything about the medical certificate. About guide... That is more likely, it is a business. I also try to not tu use guides because most of the guides I have seen are dirty and do not care about garbage management, they just litter.
