Gunung Liang Group hike 27 Aug 2022
Gunung Liang West 1,933m
Gunung Liang East 1,934m
This is perhaps my 1st ever longest self-led group hike to a near 2000m high mountain. Thanks to great teamwork and no one left behind no matter how slow the hikers pace are. Thanks to my sweeper Keith Yap and Ma Soon Kit for being so patience. This is a big mountain, do not take it lightly. For contingency purposes, I was packed with 12.2kg load 😱😱, brought with me, stove, gas, meshtin, 2 powerbank, 2 headlamps, first aid kits, 2 cup noodles, abt 500g nuts and dates, rain coat, poncho, kembara food, hardboiled eggs, 1 can tuna, almost 3.2L water plus 100+, fruits, water filter, thermos for hot drinks, coffee, ginger tea, bread, (macam picnic 😜) etc.
Permit applied for 14 pax, but turned up only 9pax. We started at ard 6.10am, walked fr car park to trailhead in the dark. Ascend timing was pretty much according to our estimate, summited ard 12.30pm. We took pretty long break at peak ard 1 hr 20 mins 😁😁 as everyone was so amazed with the beautiful mossy forest, and took so many pictures (where I was busy boiling hot water for the members 😬). Started descending only at 2.08pm. Under-estimated the descending time as the continuous rain fr 11+am made the trail so slippery and dangerous. Rain got heavier ard 6pm and got me worried that we might not able to reach Kem Lubuk Hantu (biggest river to cross) by 7.30pm and water would have risen to a dangerous level if heavy rain continues. Fast forward, we were assisted by an experienced hiker who taught our members the safest way to cross. All of us exited safely at 9.25pm with no injuries.
Kudos to all who made the hike so fun and enjoyable albeit bad weather. Was told that this hike became their longest hours hike ever, broke their own record!!🤣🤣
🔁Total distance: ard 23km
📶Elevation gain: ard 1732m
⌚Total moving time: ard 11 hours
⌚Total hours: 15.5 hours
Weather: 🌩️🌧️🌧️ Heavy rain from 12pm to 7pm
🩸Leeches?: Yes, if you are lucky 🤣
🅿️Parking: Free Parking abt 500m fr trailhead
🔄Markers clear? : Yes, very clear with markers every 10-20 footsteps, with some illuminating ribbons, except few parts with fallen trees where some markers not so visible.
💦Water Source: Kem Lubuk Hantu (river next to campsite), Kem 7E (have to hike down/up abt 300m), both water source is about 2 hours apart
🧡Will I visit again? : Yes, as the Mossy Forest at the peak is beautiful, waterfall and river at Kem Lubuk Hantu is pretty nice too! Perhaps next time can try camping 2d1n. Must go back again to take more beautiful Mossy Forest photos 😬as this is only hike I took less than 25 solo photos 😜😜.
