Itinerary description
Started 1 Sept (9:15am), ended 2 Sept (5:10pm) with OHANA.
This mountain is not as easy as some may claim. The difficulties experienced and observed were mainly during Day 2.
Pacing is really important if you want to meet the cutoff time. If you go too slow, you might miss breakfast and won’t have the energy to descent back to Timpohon. If you go fast, you might get AMS, so… yeah. Need to be at least of average fitness to conquer on time. The lack of sleep might affect your form on Day 2 as well.
(AMS is real, but weren’t affected as I took AMS pills one day in advance)
Not all will make the peak. And even if you do, you’d be tired during descent. Saw a few injured hikers on the trail. One was on a stretcher, brought down by bomba (during day 1).
Really train up if you plan to go. Some parts, especially on Day 2, towards the peak, the climb is technical and requires scrambling. Stick close to your guide.
Missed the sunrise as we arrived at 6:15, but did witness the sky changing colors. It’s still as breathtaking, nonetheless.
Weather was great during Day 1 and Day 2 morning, but started to rain during descent (last 4km).
The mountain is beautiful. And majestic. And super awesome. One of the best hike I’ve had. One peak off my bucket list!
