Itinerary description
A beautiful and challenging hike up to the peak of Tomor mountain. Stunning views everywhere along the route and 3 different kinds of landscapes. Each amazing in its own right.
The hike starts from the Guesthouse Qafe Dardhe, which is a lovely place, and takes you ~1 km and ~160m up before arriving at the ‘starting point’. You can get here by 4x4 car.
At this intersection head left and follow the sandy car road for another 1.5km and 250m up to, what we thought was, the real starting point. Black sand mountains and a pole with no directions stands here. The road now really turns into a path.
There are no markings on this path but it is quite easily followed in combination with the Wikiloc route. You proceed to go through the forest for quite some time and there is a water small point here. It comes out of a black tube and is very clear.
After ~5km in you emerge from the forest and enter the golden fields. There we found wild horses and cows grazing and a lot of flowers with thorns, so beware. Close to here ~1 km is another waterpoint, this one you cant miss. The water contains a bit of sand when we used it. At this point the Wikiloc GPS tripped and a lot of extra lines have been drawn. We also took the wrong path because we didnt see a path and a field full of thorny flowers was in the way. Possible to follow the Palmtreeproduction route here, he also has the waypoints marked. Make a right circle around / through the thorny flower field and wooden house. We avoided the field and went over the hill. A very fun and beautiful hike followed but it was quite demanding.
Around km 8 you have gained around 1000m and will be at the rocky ravine. This part is amazingly beautiful and though. The path is easily lost / gone and you can easily slip. You kind of make a circle round the ravine starting from the left and exit on the right. Here you climb the other side of the mountain with a whole new view. A doable steep climb up to the summit.
We did the hike on 21-08-23. It was very sunny with no clouds, temperature range from village to the top was 20-35 degrees. We left the GH at 6, almost the entire way to the peak was in the shade!
