Itinerary description
This walk is on entirely renovated wall. It is also very short and both ends are nailed down. Guards at the east end prevent you from going further and a locked gate to the bridge at the western end stops you getting over the river and onto the Jinshanling section. It is a very manicured part of the wall designed only for access to those staying at Gubei Water Town. Having said that it is a very pretty section of the wall and there is a chair lift to get people up and down. I also hoped to walk down the west bank of the river and it was clear that this had been possible in the past. However there is no access to the west river bank from Gubei Water town even though there is a road and path. The access to the west bank is only policed by a guard box but the guard was extremely vigilant and prevented me from passing. When I ignored him he actually became very animated and physically got in front of me and obstructed my passage. All very disappointing. Gubei Water town was not the hiking Mecca I was hoping for. Even the fruit on the buddhist alters in the "temple" is fake which kind of sums up Gubei Water Town. Wechat : timparkes36
