Itinerary description
An eleven mile one-way hike from Big Creek to Cosby Campground. The climb up Chestnut Branch Trail to the AT is the challenging part of the day.
Approaching Cosby Campground on Low Gap Trail could be confusing, as the trails are marked strangely when comparing the GSMNP map and the "900 miler" spreadsheet to the actual trail markings. If you are not concerned with the 900 miler challenge, then no issue, otherwise we ended up covering each of the trail legs shown on the map during several different hikes into/out of Cosby.
For an extra challenge (which we did not do on this hike!), once you hit the AT, you could add ~6 more miles to include the summit of Mount Cammerer.
