Itinerary description
Nice hike along the edge of the park. Our hike was in a couple of inches of snow, with temperatures from high 20's to mid 30's. We parked one car at the trailhead on Little River Road just to the east of the Townsend Wye. Drove a second car to the other trailhead on Wear Cove Gap Road, where we started thee hike.
The first 2.5 miles was a steady gentle climb of ~900 feet. The next three miles were down, with at least one pretty steep section (especially slippery in the snow). At around mile five, there is another climb of a couple hundred feet over a half mile. And from there its a steady down until reaching the Little River.
You do need to ford the Little River at the very end of the hike. For us (December 2), it was knee deep, and COLD. Other times of year it can be deeper.
7.69 miles, 1220 foot elevation gain
