Itinerary description
It's amazing how many things you'll come across on this shortish 7 km tour.
No problem parking your car near the castle of Neerijnen, along the road or in the car park. Or a little further down the road next to an art museum, called Het Stroomhuis. This is also a so-called T O P.
What to see along the track ? There are two (very different) castles to look at while you cross the estate of Landgoed Waardenburg en Neerijnen and enjoy the scenic beauty of the landscape (including ponds and fruit orchards).
Then along a (beech)tree-lined path you reach the dike offering a wide panorama on the surroundings. En route to the floodplains of Rijswaard you'll pass a mill and a museum while seeing the conspicuous Martinus Nijhoff bridge across the river Waal in the distance (as well as the tower of the Saint Martins church of Zaltbommel).
Near the railway track you turn to the left to enter Rijswaard. Here you'll find yourself in the great wide open with the bridge in full view on your right.
At the point where you circle back to the dike and the castle of Neerijnen, by turning your back to the water, you can actually access a cosy and sandy beach along the river .
At the time there were also plenty of birds enjoying the short waves the water makes there.
All in all, a rewarding track with lots to savour.
