Grintovec 2558 meters

It would be 5:30 when we woke up. The rain felt like it didn't stop long. We opened our tent to see what the weather was like outside.
The temperatures are quite good for the season, but everything around us is wet and the clouds are low, above our heads. We went back inside to get some sleep and it didn't take long for it to start to crumble.
Nevertheless, at 6:30 o'clock we started to get ready with the rain letting up.
Thank God!
We packed tents, sleeping bags, packed our backpacks and started for the top.
We were in a narrow wooded valley. All around us rose steep stone slopes on which the fir trees seemed to be climbing to escape. But the peaks were hidden behind the clouds.
We followed a forest road for a while and then followed the "snaking" paths until we were at the base of the slope facing us. Here, the game began with small via feratta, the technical difficulties of the path, the cables, the metal steps and handholds that took us up like an elevator to the next part of the route. A ravine clothed with verdure of scrubby trees and plants. Mostly with cedars. We pushed through the opposite direction of its torrent to a point and re-emerged on the trail so that we could climb the slope again to come out onto the col and the shelter. There we made a short stop to enjoy the view and take a couple of breaths.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful lodges we have seen so far. Right-left peaks, in front and behind deep gullies, gutters, which you felt awe looking down.
We rested a bit, looking at the path we would follow to take us to the top and the peaks that were bathed by the sun now and then with its warm rays. Without delaying we continued at a steady pace on the alpine terrain, on the rock, with short stops with some of the climbers.
Steep, painful, testing endurance and preparing us for the coming days.
At some point we reached the clouds, they enveloped us and we continued in a gray stone-cloud atmosphere, but the wind did not leave them alone and helped us at regular intervals to be able to steal some images around us.
Arriving at the top of Grintovec, we met some of the climbers ahead of us. We stayed up for quite some time, waiting for the weather to allow us to get some better pictures from the top. He helped as much as he could and we had the opportunity for a while to gaze at the opposite peaks. Stone pyramids!
Our return to the refuge would be by the same path, because for the alternative we could not find clear information from the mountaineers and refuge employees we asked.
During our descent, we noticed at one point a "train" of climbers coming up. We have never seen so many climbers together anywhere.
The closer we got, the more it attracted our attention.
They were all new kids, a mountain camp.
It sounded so "wow" when we were told. High school, even elementary school children who were accompanied by their team leaders.
When we asked how they managed to escape the summer raston in the cafeterias, their answer was short and the same from all of them.
"Because we are Slovenians!"
Arriving at the shelter again, our stop would be a little longer, we would enjoy beer and refreshments and from a different path we would descend again to our starting point. Where we left our car.
We quickly ascended without changing, and went to the Kokra River, which we have been tramping since the night we ascended. We washed, got ready and continued our afternoon…

Zois Lodge at Kokra Saddle

Zois Lodge at Kokra Saddle is built at 1,793 meters. It was named after the brothers Karl Zois (1756–1799) and Sigmund Zois (1747–1819). The first shelter was built of wood in 1897 by the Austrian hiking club and had to be rebuilt after the First World War. In 1966 it was extended and connected by cable car to Konec in the Kamnik Bistrica valley for its food, drink and other needs. The refuge operates from early June to mid-October offering climbers Slovenian drinks, refreshments, traditional dishes and of course hours of rest!
