Itinerary description
A short drive brings us some way up the Hospital Valley, from where we walk through the picturesque Flower Valley and up to the glacier - Narsarsuaq Glacier ("the Dead Glacier"). A dead glacier in Greenland is a glacier, which melts in a river before it reaches the fjord. That means it does not produce any icebergs. The first kilometres of the hike are quite easy. We are passing small streams and have the possibility of seeing hovering sea eagles. To get a view over the gigantic mass of ice you have to climb about 300 m up to a plateau. The ascent is not dangerous but you might get out of breath. We have a magnificent view over the glacier. It is possible to continue all the way down to the edge of the glacier. On the way back is nice to hike through the Ridge. The Ridge offers great views, a rich flora and fauna (birds).
