Itinerary description
This is a pretty tough hike, not especially because of the elevation change nor the gradient but because of the trail surface, a good part of which is over the natural rocks & boulders. It's great that it is natural but it was not pleasant walking. For that reason we turned around before we reached the coast.
The wide open hard scrabble trail that confronts you at the trailhead only goes on until the top of the ridge to your right. This section made us think we were on another planet. The colours in the rocks were interesting and it was interesting to observe that some supported a bright green lichen but others did not. You get some nice views from here of the tablelands.
After that you climb a bit more in the forest before the trail starts to descend steadily down along trail which could use a maintenance tune up.
I would give this hike am AVI rating of 4D
