Itinerary description
Great Shunner Fell from Thwaite — Yorkshire Dales National Park
Great Shunner Fell is a good little workout coming up from Thwaite, about 5.5 kilometres one way, so quite a bit shorter than coming up from Hawes. I wish I could say the views are great, but the cloud was in today on my hike. It was a great day out though, and I met some great people on the hill from all over the world.
Parking: There is a small pull-in at the start point, just outside Thwaite.
Route: A bit of road work, then a good stone track for a couple of kilometres, then it is mainly stone with the obligatory boggy bit. Nice cairn before the summit and a good summit stone walled bench area. As for the views, not a clue, totally clouded in on my day out.
Route Statistics: 11 kilometres with 475 metres of height gain done in 3 hours.
